If you have ever added a data table from Microsoft Analysis Services (i.e. a cube) and see this unexpected result and wonder what happened. The answer is simple. You didn't change the radio button from its default setting of 'Keep data table external' to 'Import data table'. When the data is kept external, a lot of functionality is unavailable, hence the message shown.
